This Is What a $10 Million Vacation Looks Like
Catering to billionaires, niche travel agencies will build sets, hire actors and write continent-spanning story lines—for the right price.
TRAVEL AGENT Ricardo Araujo prides himself on “making the impossible possible.” But finding a mermaid at short notice was a stretch, even for him.
Araujo had spent 10 months planning a cruise inspired by Homer’s “The Odyssey,” when his client—the elderly patriarch of a wealthy American family—requested a surprise for his 9-year-old granddaughter.

Ricardo Araujo spends months putting together mind-blowing vacations for the 1 percent.
The trip was about to start, and Ricardo Araujo needed to find a mermaid.
His client, the heir to a large American family fortune, was embarking on a three-week cruise that would follow the path of the epic poem The Odyssey. Araujo, a luxury travel agent who specializes in bespoke vacations, had spent six months and millions of dollars planning the trip, and he needed something truly spectacular to finish it off. When he heard the client’s granddaughter loved mermaids, he knew what it was.

3 Immersive Dramatic Experiences Not To Miss In New York And Paris
The theatrical phenomenon Sleep No More involved audiences directly in the show’s action. Now, one based on Phantom of the Opera, others on a Gothic fairy tale and a royal mystery in Paris follow.
Coming this fall in Paris, in the way that the Olympics Opening Ceremony used the city as a setting, the luxe travel company Ariodante plans to use it to stage a three day experience called The Queen’s Lost Diamonds. Here, the participants are even more involved in the production because there’s a mystery around a royal scandal and the guests are the ones solving it, traversing the city, venturing into parts of landmarks usually not open to the public and questioning historical figures played by actors. There are also promised challenges for aspiring daredevils. Tickets aren’t being placed on public sale and very few other details are being released in advance. Would-be participants need to apply and prices start at $627,000; the exact price will be determined by the path the participant takes—each will be individually tailored.

Luxury travel creation agency Ariodante designs rare and private experiences rooted in art, history and culture for some of the wealthiest people on the planet. Its latest offering is no exception, giving ultra-wealthy clients the chance to play detective in a three-day treasure hunt across Paris, taking place this autumn.
Unlock The Secrets Of Paris: Ariodante’s Most Ambitious Escapade Yet
When Ariodante announced its latest venture, few anticipated the audacious scope involved. The Queen's Lost Diamonds transforms centuries-old French conspiracy into a three-day player-led investigation across Paris, granting participants access to restricted monument areas and authentic historical manuscripts. This invitation-only immersive experience demands intellectual rigour and emotional resilience, promising outcomes that extend far beyond conventional luxury travel.
This autumn, Paris will transform into a high-stakes arena where history, intrigue, and luxury travel converge. Known for crafting immersive, narrative-led adventures, Ariodante will offer a select few “golden tickets” to its most ambitious project yet: The Queen’s Lost Diamonds.
Billed as the most intricate immersive game ever attempted, the three-day experience reimagines the boundaries of luxury travel and interactive storytelling. Inspired by the psychological disorientation of David Fincher’s ‘The Game’, it invites participants to investigate one of France’s most scandalous and enduring conspiracies, a historical mystery that has confounded scholars for centuries. When the game concludes, organisers claim, fresh light will be shed on the real events behind it.

And then there are those that throw you into the shadows of a city's past, daring you to rearrange the truth with your own two hands. This autumn, Paris will host one such adventure, through "adventure" may be too gentle a word.
At the heart of it is a mystery. A real one. One that has danced on the margins of history books for centuries: the tale of the Queen's Lost Diamonds. It's a story dense with scandal, conspiracy, and the unsettling suggestion that the truth has been deliberately misplaced. Enter Ariodante, a travel company not known for package holidays or glossy brochures. What they create are better described as narrative odysseys, ephemeral, extravagant, and entirely bespoke, This time, however, even their own rules have been rewritten.

From trekking the Inca trail in Peru to running the Great Wall of China, adventure holidays are all the rage.
Adrenaline junkies, however, are going to need seriously deep pockets for the latest extreme getaway – it costs £15.3million.
The other catch is there is only one place available, and whoever gets it will need polar survival training to cope with -34C temperatures.
Organisers of the Arctic trip to the northernmost point on Earth insist it will be worth it as the lucky holidaymaker will earn a place in the history books as the first person to set foot on undiscovered land.

This is about more than fashion. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience normally available only to royalty, heiresses and celebrities. Gaining entry into the haute couture circle of around 4,000 members worldwide requires an invitation.

All Aboard the Orient Express
Who can forget Agatha Christie’s Orient Express, where Detective Poirot solved a puzzling murder mystery? If you have always fantasized about being on such a mysterious train, now is your chance.
The World’s Most Luxurious Murder Mystery Vacation
When you think Agatha Christie and trains, you naturally think of perhaps her most famous work, Murder on the Orient-Express. But Christie also wrote another rail-themed novel starring her famous fictional Detective Poirot, Mystery of the Blue Train.
This where it gets confusing.
At the time, the Blue Train was a luxury French rail trip running the entire breadth of France, North to South, from Calais on the English Channel to the Riviera. However, it no longer exists, and the name is better known today for another luxury overnight rail trip, this one from Cape Town to Pretoria in South Africa...

Stay in a Mansion in Saint Helena, the Final Residence of Napoleon Bonaparte
After Napoleon I, Emperor of France, was defeated at Waterloo in 1815, he was banished to Saint Helena – a remarkably remote tropical island in the South Atlantic Ocean. Located 1,200 miles west of Angola, and 2,500 east of Rio de Janeiro and belonging to the United Kingdom, it is considered to be one of the most isolated islands in the world.

Why You Should Take A Sabbatical
You don’t have to be an academic to go on sabbatical. Many companies these days, particularly in tech, have built in sabbaticals for long-term employees, allowing them to take off and pursue their own interests for a month or two, say, every five years. And plenty are choosing to use that time to travel, deep, some with families, others with friends, some solo. Imagine spending four weeks in Japan, then three more in Indonesia before heading back home. It’s a whole new level of local immersion, allowing you to get more than skin-deep, to even hone a skill or learn something new. Luxury travel-planning outfits that have cottoned on to the trend offer more than just a longer itinerary, with extras like access to experts and to usually off-limits places.
Thrilling Escapes: How To Travel Like Agatha Christie
Travel, it seems, is taking a mysterious turn this year, with a flurry of Agatha Christie-inspired trips being launched for amateur sleuths, and explorers, alike.
For those with more of a penchant for the romance of train travel, look no further than Ariodante’s new immersive trip onboard the iconic Orient Express train.

Six Luxury Outdoor Holidays You Can Book Right Now
As a travel writer, I am used to whizzing off to some incredible places. Some of my trips may be impromptu hops to nearby destinations, other journeys take months in the planning – curating itineraries and discussing ideas for the stories I will eventually write. After some 20 years of doing this, and travelling frequently, I still am addicted to the buzz of getting on a plane, the anticipation of arrival, the new smells of undiscovered lands and the fog of heat that wraps you as you descend the plane stairs somewhere hot.

The Luxe Radar: Designer coffee
Once upon a time, kopi luwak was the most expensive coffee in the world. Created from partially digested coffee cherries retrieved from Asian palm civets’ dung, the fashionable coffee soon drew questions around animal welfare. Luckily, Northern Thailand’s rescue elephants were on hand to step in as the world’s fanciest coffee processors. Cue Black Ivory Coffee, ethically produced under the watchful eye of the Golden Triangle’s Asian Elephant Foundation.

Every travel story requires many months of research, negotiations, and careful implementation to exceed the flawlessness and level of privacy billionaires expect. Costs usually reach millions of dollars, but for the few embarking on these ‘money can’t buy’ journeys, it is not self-indulgent fun and games; it is about realizing dreams, self-transformation, and making a positive impact.
